Dinner in an old underground train, in the cinema or in the dark? Apart from fine dining and beer gardens, Munich has a whole other culinary category to offer: These extraordinary restaurants take their guests on a journey they won't soon forget. We hope you enjoy trying them out!
Munich is also called Italy's northernmost city - the people of Munich have a special relationship with their neighbouring country. Giorgia Trattoria on Rosenheimer Platz is the perfect place to get a taste of the glamour of Milan in the 1980s. Here, ‘maximalism’ reigns from the carpet to the mirrored ceilings: XXL floral prints on chairs and walls, pasta on plates that look like sunflowers and toilet rooms with disco balls on the ceiling. Another bonus: The food is excellent, and the pasta from the Parmesan loaf is particularly recommended.

Eating without seeing what's on your plate? That's possible at ‘Dinner in the Dark’ - an initiative that was created together with the Institute for the Blind. Here, the Kurfürstensaal at Schlosswirtschaft Schwaige is transformed into a lightless room. Guests are shown to their seats in the dark and then it's time to start: a four-course meal that is almost exclusively about the senses of smell and taste. One thing is certain: you will leave the ‘Dinner in the Dark’ with a newfound understanding of your senses!

A chef who is no bigger than a thumb? How is that supposed to work? With the latest 3D technology. At Le Petit Chef in Munich, guests can watch live as the world's smallest chef prepares food virtually. Guests choose from two menu options and watch as the little hologram struggles with ingredients that are twice as big as his animation, which is guaranteed to make the whole team laugh. The trend from Marseille has become a worldwide phenomenon - and will continue to be a topic of conversation after the event. A dinner here lasts around two hours and the audio accompaniment is played exclusively in German.

Enjoying a meal while watching the latest blockbuster or arthouse film? This is possible in the Astor Film Lounge in the Arri cinema in Maxvorstadt. Munich's most traditional film theatre can be hired for events and provides an unforgettable cinema experience. First a drink at the Arri bar and then a film in the cosy red velvet armchairs in the club room. Food is served at the touch of a button so you can enjoy the movie in peace. The menu includes Bavarian specialities such as Obazda, potato salad and a snack platter.

Experience the flavours of Rio de Janeiro in a disused metro carriage? That's possible at La Favela. On the grounds of Bahnwärter Thiel, a cultural centre on the site of the former large cattle hall of the slaughterhouse, Munich offers space for unusual concepts such as La Favela. The old railway carriages have been lovingly refurbished, furnished with tables and pleasant lighting and are now home to excellent South American cuisine. If you fancy pão de queijo (baked cheese dough balls), picanha (traditional boiled beef steak) or pudim de leite (caramel pudding), La Favela is the place for you.

This dinner is a two-in-one: show and dinner at the same time. At the GOP Varieté-Theater you can be thrilled by fantastic food and an exciting show. The shows are a mixture of theatre, acrobatics and comedy. They are served with seasonal dishes - in winter, for example, chestnut soup, black-feathered chicken and baked apple; vegetarian options are of course also available. Meals are served either in the restaurant before the show or directly during the performance, and are then served during the intervals.

Taste different Munich restaurants and experience the most important sights at the same time - that's possible with dinner hopping. Here you travel through the city in a vintage school bus and stop at three restaurants: At each restaurant, a dish is then served on the bus, you just have to decide which cuisine you would like. You can choose between Italian, American or Bavarian. There are also drinks and music, even live on some journeys. The Bavarian lunch tour with two courses is new. The buses depart from the valley and can also be booked privately!
